EntasisType is an independent type foundry founded in Madrid in 2025 by Guillermo Gil. It develops retail typefaces, variable systems and custom typographic solutions for visual identity, editorial design and digital environments.
Guillermo Gil is the founder and creative director of EntasisType, working as a graphic and type designer.
The project began with a simple concern: letters are never neutral shapes on a page. They carry rhythm, weight, tension and atmosphere. They are read before they are analysed, and their smallest adjustments can change the way a text feels, moves and holds together.
The name EntasisType refers to entasis, the subtle optical correction used in architecture to make a form appear balanced to the human eye. For Guillermo, this idea is central to type design. A letter is not only a geometric construction. It is a perceived form, shaped by scale, spacing, contrast, context and repetition.
The work combines drawing, historical study, calligraphy, type design, spacing, interpolation, kerning and continuous testing. Each family is developed through a slow process of looking, adjusting and testing again: in words, paragraphs, interfaces, identities and editorial layouts.
EntasisType designs typefaces for real systems. The aim is not to make decorative fonts, but typographic families with voice, coherence and enough strength to live across identity, editorial work, visual culture, interfaces and digital products.
Technology is part of the process, especially in variable systems and production, but it is never the centre of the work. It serves visual judgement: rhythm, proportion, typographic colour and the quiet corrections that make a typeface usable over time.
EntasisType exists to design letters that can carry thought, structure and tone with clarity.
